This series of work focuses on the balance between solidity and space and the ways in which wood can be transformed and expanded. I work with the natural flexibility of trees to explore the range of forms I can create from a single board, producing furniture with hardly any glue or joinery. The nature of the material itself helps form these fluid curves. These pieces start with solid wood, cut part way through, and expanded like an accordion. This method has led to clean, honest forms where the structure is the ornamentation.
